Outdoor Education and Camp Program

Along with our extensive Sports Program, students at St John’s College, Woodlawn are provided with the opportunity to enjoy well organised camps that challenge and extend students physically, intellectually and socially.

Camps are led by qualified specialist instructors assisted by College staff. Currently, the Outdoor Education Camps are running in Years 7, 8 and 9.

Each camp program is designed to offer significant learning experiences and team building activities that cannot be offered in the formal school environment. Carefully considered activities encourage students to develop skills that allow them to not only develop confidence but to think and work interdependently with others. Many of the activities focus on the necessity for communication and teamwork, skills that will be essential for involvement in life well beyond the school experience.

Each camp is sequential throughout the year levels, with students building upon activities and skills experienced and developed in their last camp program.

Examples of activities that occur in the Outdoor Education and Camps Program are:

  • Problem solving activities
  • Team building exercises
  • Hiking
  • Canoeing
  • Archery
  • Orienteering
  • High rope activity
  • Preparing meals

Detailed information is provided prior to your child’s participation in the program. Part of this will include an equipment list that outlines important items necessary.

Some of the camps will challenge students physically and mentally but in a positive manner. The College’s Camp Program provides invaluable learning experiences for all involved and is often referred to by students as one of their most memorable experiences during their school year.
