Damien Price thanked those people who were on the committee in the previous 12 months and welcomed the members for the ensuing year.
Those in attendance were quite happy with the newsletter and some indicated that they were happy to see email used to distribute the newsletters.
There was a lot of discussion regarding ways to increase the membership of the association. It was mentioned that the letters to parents of the Year 12 students will be forwarded earlier in the year in the hope that they will be able to afford to pay for the membership early without the expense of the Year 12 Formal outfits.
3. Alternate Reunions
There are a number of reunions held by various groups each year and there is no information of the function forwarded to the Ex-Students Association. It would be great if the details were given so that the details of gatherings could be in bi-annual newsletters.
4. Overview of current scholarships at the College
The Ex-Students Association manages a number of scholarships that have been donated by a number of ex-students.
One ex-student has 6 scholarships for students (covering 1 student in each Year) and also has 10 hardship scholarships.
The 1990 Ex-Students group fund a scholarship in memory of Landrigan which is given to a Year 11 student each year.
In total there are 26 scholarships that managed by the Ex-Students Association.
5. Legal Aspects with regard to Scholarship Funds
The Woodlawn Ex-Students Association now has a Charitable Trust Deed which covers all the scholarships that it manages and this now allows donors to claim any donations as a tax deduction each year.
6. Update on Fr Segrief Gallipoli Memorial Park
The plaque that was purchased jointly by the Marists, St John’s and the Ex-Students Association has been installed on the wall at the entrance to the College Chapel.
7. Ex-Students Memorabilia
The Association currently has stubbie holders available for purchase and is currently looking at having a tie available in the not too distant future. It was suggested that the committee look at the possibility of having a Polo or T shirt also.
Before the meeting closed Patron John Molloy moved a vote of thanks to Brian Richards for services rendered to the Ex-Students Association. Brian has been a member of the committee since 2000 and has been responsible for a lot of the work in setting up the Memorabilia Room and has been maintaining it and obtaining additional memorabilia from ex-students and others for inclusion. Even though Brian has decided not to continue on the committee he has agreed to continue to look after the memorabilia room. Those in attendance thanked Brian for the job that he has done over the years by acclamation. Brian will certainly be missed.
There being no further business the meeting closed at 12.15 pm.
